Yahoo!!! I have just returned from the Professional Photographers of Michigan Annual Convention where I was awarded the trophy of one of the top seven photographer in the state. Each year this is determined by photographers submitting 4 prints to be judged anonymously by a panel of photographers, scored and the highest scores are awarded trophies. I cannot tell you how excited I was that I received this award. There are very many great photographers that enter this judging and many that I hold the highest respect for. So to be in their ranks is a humbling privilege. Now I can't wait until next year to enter again. What fun. I love it!!

Senior Portrait of Zac

It is the middle of Senior season right now. Everyone is busy creating their portraits for their last year of High School and I have photographed some really great kids this year. Let me tell you about Zac. I photographed him last week and so enjoyed his bright and witty personality. He was a little unsure of how to be in front of the camera at first, but he soon relaxed when he realized that it wasn't going to hurt. By the end of the first outfit, Zac true personality was starting to come through. His best friend had been in the studio a couple of weeks ago and I had learned that Jake wanted to be an anesthesiologist. I jokingly asked Zac what he wanted to be when he "grew up", like he's not already grown, and reminded him of Jake's aspirations. Without loosing a beat, Zac one upped his friend and blurted out, I'm going to be a heart surgeon. Once we stopped laughing, I had to think to myself, this young man is going to go far with such a quick wit and enjoyable personality. This is why I love my job. I meet the greatest people and have such a good time doing it. Thank you God for gracing me such a great job!

City Scapes

I love my job!!!! Look at all these cool photos of Sarah. We went downtown to capture her Senior pics and had a blast. We even got to play around one of my favorite buildings in the area because the owner was there and let us on his property. Sweet! I love my job!!

Recently while I was surfing the internet I came across an online store called ETSY. It has tons of homemade items for sale. You can shop by category like normal online stores, or if you want you can shop by color. There's an easy to use color tool to select a color you'd like to look for, and it shows you all of the matching results!

There are so many nifty handmade things on this site, but my favorite would have to be the bags and purses.

Thoes are just a few that caught my eye last time I was there. They have so many cool items to look at it's hard to pick just one!

Anyway, hope your winter is going well. This weather just keeps changing! This past weekend was all sunshine and relatively warm, but today it's back to snow and cold. Guess that's what Michigan weather is all about... unpredictability and change!

Across The Universe

Over the weekend I was hanging out with some friends and we rented the movie Across the Universe. I don't think this movie was advertised much, but I think it's a fantastic movie. It is a little chick-flick based, but without so much of the cheesey story. It's a musical performed entirely with Beatles songs. I absolutely loved it! I grew up listening to the Beatles because my dad liked them so much, so it was really exciting listening to each song in a new, updated way. Here's a trailer I found on youtube. Just click once on the movie to activate the control and then click play. ^_^

"Spring Cleaning"

It's been so long since I've posted, I know. I've been super busy, but that's not much of an excuse. So I'm back! I'll be posting every week - at least... sometimes more... with updates, specials, general thoughts, some images, and most importantly - with some free stuff! so stay tuned for it all.

This past weekend all of us here at Boyce took a trip to Yipsilanti for Professional Photographers of Michigan's annual convention. It was a lot of fun seeing all the new faces and catching up with our photographer friends. I can't believe all the new members this year! My mom, Denise, was President Elect this past year, so she planed this convention with the help of the PPM board members. It was a lovely location, the Marriott of Yipsilanti, and we had a ton of great speakers and print judges. Convention ended with a semi-formal banquet where all of the print trophies were awarded to photographers with exceptional prints entered in competition, and our good friend, Loretta gave her presidential speech and then handed the presidency on to my mom. Everyone who reaches the board position of President of PPM has worked so hard for so many years. I'm very glad that Loretta and my mom have reached the level they have in PPM and get to see all of their hard work pay off! Congrats to Loretta on becoming a PPM Past President, and to my mom, Denise, on her new position as President of PPM!

Seeing all of the speakers at convention gave me so much inspiration and motivation to update some things here at our own studio that we all came back and started hard at work. We're working on reorganizing several rooms here and we're updating most of our displays. Keep a look out for some new promotions and as always, a lot of excitement for what we love - PHOTOGRAPHY!

Hey guys!

Denise (the primary photographer and owner here at Boyce) is my mom. I work for her doing a lot of the digital work, computer upkeep, and most importantly - I put everything together on our websites! I love working on the websites and the blogs, I just wish I had more time to spend blogging.

Either way, my mom just got back from Professional Photographers of Michigan's Fall Convention. Every year they have photo competitions between the photographers. Well, this year my mom won Best of Show in the senior category with one of our recent seniors - Zareen! I'm so excited and proud of my mom.

I loved Zareen's images so I wanted to share the winning photograph and a few other images from Zareen's City Scapes session.

Hey everyone!
This is Katherine. Doesn’t she have the most beautiful eyes you have ever seen? I enjoyed photographing her so much that I just had to put her on the blog. Her skin has such a soft, healthy glow that compliments her hair and brings out her eyes. What a stunning classic beauty!
